Jersey dress with pretty braided detail.

If you're an avid sewer you know that your fabric stash grows exponentially. And I am no exception. I had a couple of meters of this lovely, just barely olive green, soft and stretchy jersey lying around and it was time that I did something with it. Since I love dresses, I decided that I would be sewing exactly that. After doing some research (ie: searching pinterest for inspiration), I had a plan. The dress was going to be about knee-length, short sleeve, it would be a style that would be appropriate for the office, but would also be great for going out to a nice restaurant, or being out and about on the weekend. The inspiration for this project was a braided scarf that I just fell in love with and I wanted to incorporate this detail into my new dress. I simply cut narrow strips of fabric, braided them, and along with a few unbraided strips, I added them around the neckline. I cut the strips perpendicular to the grain line so that when stretched, the edges curled in, resulting in tubular strips.

 I love how this dress turned out. It's great paired with an accent belt and heels for a more dressed up look, but it's also cute on a more casual day with flats.
